9 Things to Remember Before Your Wedding Day
A handy list to help with your wedding planning.
-
Double Check Details with Your Photographer
It goes without saying that wedding photographers make their money by, well, going to weddings. And even though your big day is the only event in town as far as your family is concerned, for them it’s just another day at the office. So to make sure they haven’t got you mixed up with a wedding in Wimbledon or a service in Salford, give them a call to confirm they have the right date, venue and above all, the correct arrival time.
-
Drop off Gifts
If you’re handing out gifts to your wedding party members, it might be worth dropping them off at the venue beforehand. This might be something simple like a small souvenir or momento of the occasion, or even formal clothes for women to wear after the big event. Even so, it’s still something you don’t want to have to worry about. So drop them off at the place you are holding the reception and let them look after them for you until the time comes to dish them out.
-
Finalise Seating Plans
Having nightmares about your aunty Susan arguing with uncle Ian? Or scared that your best friend Sarah will be arguing the whole time with her ex during the speeches? Well put simply, don’t let it happen. Make sure you go over your seating arrangements with a fine tooth comb to make sure your day isn’t overshadowed by others.
-
Check over the Dresses and Suits
It may seem a little late in the day, but even finding the odd thread or loose button on the morning of the big day will give you the chance of some last minute alterations. So give your wedding dress or suit one last going over before it’s too late.
-
Pack an Overnight Bag
With all the excitement and arrangements, it’s amazing how many people don’t think to take a few essentials with them on their big day. This could be casual clothing, some nightwear, beauty products or even your favourite pair of slippers anything to make you feel more comfortable when you go to bed at night or wake up the next morning.
-
Eat Well
You may be nervous. You may be apprehensive. But being hungry will only make things worse. Far too many people don’t eat enough, if at all, on their wedding day. So to ensure you’re not famished while you’re posing for photos, be sure to eat something, however small – even if it’s just while you’re getting ready.
-
Compile a Contact List
You might not want to think about it, but it’s not uncommon for someone in your party to oversleep, have the wrong time, or even turn up at the wrong venue. For this reason it’s vital that you have contact numbers for EVERYONE. We might think we have everyone’s numbers stored on our phones, but weddings can bring different groups together. So get the details of bridesmaids, ushers flower girls, ring bearers, parents, grandparents pretty much anyone who might be attending.
-
Prepare a Wedding Emergency Kit
You know the kind of thing. A spare needle and thread, sticking plasters, safety pins, breath mints – basically anything that you might need when the day comes. We can’t foresee what’s around the corner, but being prepared (as boy scouts everywhere will tell you) can help to lessen the impact on your wedding day should the unexpected happen.
-
Conduct a Thorough Head Count
You may be sure that you’ve sent out all your invites, but are you absolutely convinced that everyone has sent back their RSVP? You might think everything is going perfectly until more friends and family members turn up than you have room for. So if you haven’t received a reply from one or two guests, makes sure to call them up and confirm don’t just assume they’re not coming.
