10 THINGS COUPLES SHOULD KNOW BEFORE BOOKING WEDDING MUSIC
Live music creates some of the most memorable moments of a wedding day, but there is much more to booking a musician than simply choosing your favourite songs. Nadia Violin has been performing at wedding for over 10 years. Here are Nadias ten things every couple should know before booking wedding music to help everything run smoothly.
- Book early.
Popular wedding musicians often secure bookings years in advance, especially for peak dates. I currently take bookings up to three years ahead, so if live music is high on your priority list, it’s worth enquiring as soon as you’ve chosen your date. - Consider the performance location.
Not every outdoor ceremony has access to electricity. Choosing a musician with battery-operated professional equipment offers much greater flexibility. I use a battery-powered sound system, allowing me to perform almost anywhere – indoors or outdoors – without relying on nearby power sockets, and I can move quickly between different locations throughout the day if needed. - Always have a weather plan.
Outdoor weddings are beautiful, but British weather can be unpredictable. Live musicians need protection from both heavy rain and direct sunshine. Electronic equipment, speakers and, most importantly, the violin itself can be damaged by extreme conditions. Having a sheltered area or indoor alternative ensures your music can continue safely whatever the weather. - Don’t worry about exact timings too early.
Wedding schedules often change several times before the big day. Rather than asking couples to estimate every minute months in advance, I offer packages that cover each part of the wedding, with final timings confirmed much closer to the date. This allows far more flexibility and removes unnecessary stress. - A performance involves much more than one song.
Couples sometimes ask whether it’s possible to book “just the aisle song”, without realising everything involved behind the scenes. Every performance includes travel, early arrival, setting up equipment, sound checks and preparing before guests arrive. Once everyone is seated, it feels natural to provide music while guests are waiting, and leaving immediately after the entrance would interrupt the flow and emotion of the ceremony. That’s why complete ceremony packages create a much more seamless experience. - Make your music personal.
Your wedding should reflect your story. Whether you choose timeless classics, modern chart hits or film soundtracks, personalised music makes the day even more meaningful. I invite every couple to choose every song I perform, with over 1,000 pieces in my repertoire, and I’m always happy to learn special requests as well as to help with song choices! - Any song can become an aisle song.
Many couples assume only traditional music works for walking down the aisle. In reality, almost any meaningful song can be transformed into a beautiful, slower arrangement that perfectly suits the pace and emotion of your entrance. - New song requests need time.
If you’d like something completely unique, try to request it well in advance. Learning, arranging and rehearsing new music properly takes time, ensuring your chosen song sounds exactly as it should on the day. - Think beyond the ceremony.
Live music doesn’t have to end once you’ve said “I do”. The drinks reception is the perfect opportunity to set the tone for the celebrations with upbeat, feel-good music while your guests mingle and you enjoy your photographs.
