“Consider location, size, style, cost, marriage license status, accommodation, food and drink offerings and photo opportunities. Each couple has their own non-negotiable set of requirements as well as a more flexible list of priorities.
For location, think about how far you want to travel from your home and where your guests are travelling from. If you are having a church service, you don’t want to have to travel for an hour or more to get to your reception as that’s a good chunk out of your wedding day.
Look for venues that offer space suitable for your number of guests. A dining room that holds up to 180 doesn’t suit a very intimate day, and conversely, you don’t want your guests to feel squashed into a venue.
Know your wedding style. This will help narrow down the venues to view massively. A barn setting is great for a relaxed, informal affair but not so good if you want a very grand, classic wedding.
Everyone has a wedding budget. Whether you are working with £5,000 or £50,000, request a wedding pack and prices before you book a showaround so as not to waste your time.
If you opt for a civil ceremony, a celebrant-led ceremony or a church service, make sure your venue is suitable. Want to be married outdoors? Ask potential venues where they can hold outside ceremonies and what their wet-weather options are.
