PLANNING A STAG DO
Whether it’s your first time as best man or your third, being given this honourable task by a close friend or relative can be both incredibly exciting and daunting. Aside from the best man’s speech, the pep talks with the groom-to-be and ensuring the other groomsmen are all prepared for the big day, there is of course one vital duty you must fulfil and it’s a biggie the planning of the stag do!
Making Plans
It may seem like a straightforward task, however making sure the stag has a good send off without upsetting your relationship with the bride-to-be can be a delicate balance, as is ensuring you’ve planned to suit the tastes and budgets of everyone attending. Whilst it may sound like an obvious suggestion; planning really is key, and it is essential to ensure the smooth running of an event such as this. As well as leaving yourself enough time to get each aspect of the stag do planned to perfection, it is important to allow the guests enough time to pencil in the event into their diaries, as well as allowing them ample time to save the necessary funds to pay for the day, weekend or week of celebrations.
Guests and Budgeting
Spend some time working alongside the groom to put together the guestlist; this will ensure that no one important is missed off and means that you’re not inviting anyone he may not want to be there. It’s vital to think very seriously about the number of people make the list because not only is it a thankless task attempting to organise large groups of men, but it can be equally challenging to find an activity or location that will suit the tastes and budgets of all those invited along too that is likely to include the fathers of both the bride and groom, relatives such as brother’s and a handful of friends and other relatives. Whilst you’re unlikely to accommodate all attendees, attempting to cover as many bases as possible is advisable if you’re hoping to avoid a stress-free groom.
Location and Activities
A trip abroad might seem like the most attractive option, but what really matters is gathering together the grooms nearest and dearest friends to celebrate alongside him, and so a stag weekend somewhere a little closer to home but still as lively and exciting is a great alternative option.
Whether your guest of honour is an outdoorsy type whose dream stag party is a weekend in the middle of the countryside fishing, camping and bonding with his friends or would be more at home with a few drinks and a hearty meal in his university or home town, there are certainly plenty of options to choose from. If your groom is open to ideas, then why not start a group on social media and allow the guests to vote on what they would prefer to do to celebrate, this way, you can easily keep everyone up to date of any changes that happen such as time, locations and costs.
The Little Extras
If you’re hoping to score a few extra brownie points with the groom, why not go the extra mile and ensure even the smallest of details are covered; these type of gestures don’t have to be huge or cost the earth, but even the smallest gesture can mean a great deal. Something as simple as organising a whip round to cover the cost of his stay in the hotel or the activities you have planned, or perhaps treating him to a gift of sorts such as a bottle of his favourite whiskey or a keepsake such as a special piece of jewellery to help him remember this momentous occasion is certain to mean the world to him.
