Need to lose weight for your wedding?
These days weight loss for your wedding day is an integral part of your preparations but it is important to consider who you are losing the weight for. Of course, you want to look your best for your wedding day, after all there are going to be numerous photographs taken of you and your future spouse. Speaking of your future spouse, remember that this is the person who loved and wanted to marry you before you decided to slim down for your gorgeous dress!
If you want to lose weight because it’s what you want then go ahead but if you are only doing it because none of the sample dresses you tried on would fasten up or because your chief bridesmaid is as skinny as a rail, then stop! Losing weight is difficult enough for someone who wants to be slimmer but can be nearly impossible if you are doing it for someone else. Planning a wedding can be a stressful time for some brides-to-be so do you need to add to that by forcing yourself to lose weight on top of everything else? This is particularly problematic if feeling hungry is more likely to turn you into a bridezilla!
Also, what about the cake tasting sessions? Are you going to deprive yourself of all the opportunities to taste types of wedding cake or to have that glass of fizz that’s offered when you go to try on your wedding dresses? And what about your hen night(s); will you truly enjoy yourself if you are worrying about how many calories you’re eating or drinking or even turning things down because of your diet?
If you’re thinking that you will look back on your photographs in 10 years’ time and hate the way you look you really should think again. You will notice how proud your parents look, the adoring gaze in your spouse’s eyes and the generally happy faces because it’s a day for celebration and the people who love you are there to see you happy. They will all love the person who is standing there in front of them looking calm and content rather than the one who looks stressed and uptight because she still doesn’t look perfect in her own eyes. Besides, many of us put on weight as we get older so do you want to look back on your wedding day and think how much you’ve let yourself go since then? (We are just kidding!)
What I’m trying to say is that it’s more important that you are comfortable in your own skin; if you have a positive body image you will find greater enjoyment from your wedding day and the subsequent marriage because you will be happier, calmer and need less reassurance from your partner that you are still the person they love. That person is the one who didn’t want you to be something different; who already thought you looked perfect just the way you are and who wants to grow old with you, not some image.
Remember, this is supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life and you deserve it to be. So before you decide to lose weight make sure it’s for the right reasons; you want to be fitter or healthier and not because some magazine or dress designer thinks you should.
