Yay, congratulations on tying the knot! Now that all the wedding preparations that have worn you out are done, it’s time to plan the most beautiful part of getting married – the honeymoon! Since this is a special time in everyone’s lives, it’s very important that you choose a destination that’s both exotic and somehow special. If you want to be a bit different than the rest of the couples who opt for an exotic getaway in a resort and spend a week or so there doing practically nothing but cuddling and sipping champagne in a hot tub (which doesn’t sound so bad, after all), you can always try something more adventurous and challenging. So, ladies and gentlemen, if your choice is a road trip throughout an unknown country, take a look at everything that you need to know!

1. Allocate your time spent there

First of all, it’s important to know how many days you will be spending on your road trip. This is not only important so that you could plan your road trip in the best possible way, but you should also book the accommodation in the specific towns or cities that you want to visit. As most of honeymooners opt for vacations that last 14 or so days, this is also an excellent number of days for your road trip as you will get to see more places but also enjoy a single place just long enough. Bearing in mind that you will want to spend circa two nights at each location, this brings you to six or seven locations, not counting the small stops you will be making!

2. Choose your destination carefully

There are many countries and continents that are worth visiting and exploring by car, but perhaps the most popular and most adventurous destination is Australia. So, if you want to see something that’s super interesting, you can always fly to Melbourne and start your road trip there. The good thing is that you don’t need to bring your own car – you can always consider cheap car hire and use that car to see all the great places along The Great Ocean Road which is an excellent route for any honeymoon. Australia really has some spectacular views on its plate for you, so opting for this continent is a great idea and definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience, just like (hopefully) your honeymoon!

3. Suitcase essentials

Regardless of the country or continent that you choose to explore, having all the essentials in your suitcase is of the utmost importance. The first thing that you need to pack is your passports and all the booking information that you have – this is something that you cannot repurchase, so make sure to check them first off your to-pack list. Other things that you need to consider are clothes – it doesn’t matter where you’re going, packing clothes for both summer and winter is a must. You never know what kind of weather you will get at your destination, so it’s always best to be prepared for extremely hot days and cold nights (so bring your jackets regardless of when you’re traveling). Also, if you choose to visit Australia or any other place that’s similar in weather and wilderness, bring an insect repellent and sunscreen – it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

4. Do your homework

Apart from choosing hotels or AirBnB flats as your accommodation, it’s also very important to know where you will be eating, where you can find good and authentic food, what places to see and if you need to purchase or book tickets beforehand. You can find a great deal of information on this matter online, so put everything on paper, write down all the things that you want to see and check if they’re still working and if you can get a discount if you book tickets online (lifehack!). Also, a very important tip – do research on where to eat tasty, authentic food, because that’s always important when you’re traveling someplace new.

5. Don’t forget to document

Finally, regardless of the destination that you choose, make sure to have enough battery on your smartphone, tablet or camera every single minute (this means that you need a couple of power banks just in case). Each place can be very instagrammable, but you should also have the goal of creating perfect memories from your adventurous honeymoon. If you’re good with different apps, you can also consider the idea of making a small honeymoon vlog – this is a memory that will be very much precious in a decade or two, so carpe this opportunitiem!

And these are the honeymoon road trip essentials that you should have in mind! First of all, make a wise choice, pack everything that we told you to, and the last task for you is to enjoy! Bon voyage!
