Get inspiration for your getaway with this guide to Italys best hiking trails for honeymooners.
The Sentiero degli Dei, or Path of the Gods – Amalfi
The Amalfi Coast is one of the most picturesque locations in Europe, with pastel villages adorning jaw-dropping cliffs with the deep blue sea below. Despite its daunting name, the Path of the Gods is a simple trail to complete, taking around two to four hours in total. Start at the village of Bomerano and enjoy a downhill hike all the way to the cooling waters at Positano. A relaxed but nonetheless beautiful trail with epic views.

Tre Cime di Lavaredo Loop – the Dolomites
In the north of Italy, the Dolomites present a different kind of hiking challenge. The Tre Cime di Lavaredo Loop is a 10km hike taking you around three iconic Dolomites peaks. The trail carries around 400m of ascents and descents but is relatively easy underfoot, straightforward to follow, and offers you sublime views of jagged peaks and the sandstone scenery of the Dolomites.
Lago di Braies – the Dolomites
Elsewhere in the Dolomites, the Lago di Braies trail is well worth exploring too. This route sits in stark contrast to Tre Cime di Lavaredo with snow-capped mountains and a stunning lake known as ‘the jewel of the Dolomites’. You can circle the lake on a leisurely two-mile hike which takes you through tremendous alpine scenery for secluded aerial glimpses of the water below. This trail is a smooth stroll with plenty of stopping points where you and your partner can sit back, relax, and take in the mesmerising scenery.

Pilgrimage Trail
Last but certainly not least are Italy’s iconic religious pilgrimage trails, with the Via Francigena being one of the most popular. This ancient route runs from Canterbury in England all the way through to Apulia in Italy. The trail has been walked by thousands of devotees over hundreds of years. Walking the whole route is obviously out of reach for your honeymoon but hiking a portion of this historic track will give you a sense of the spectacular scenery and scale of the Via Francigena. One of the most pleasant parts of the pilgrimage path is in Tuscany, between Lucca and Siena. Begin in the walled city of Lucca, cross the green rolling hills of Tuscany. Admire the dramatic vistas as you approach the UNESCO World Heritage historic centre of Siena. The secluded countryside accommodation is sure to make this romantic.
