Top Tips to Prepare Your Hair before Your Big Day
You put so much planning into looking and feeling your best ahead of your big day that it can be easy to forget about looking after your crowning glory – your hair!
By building easy, do-able steps into your routine on the days and months leading up to your ceremony, you can make sure that your hair stylist has the perfect canvas to create a style that looks amazing and holds in place for the whole day.
Helen Hill, the hair expert behind Wedding Angels and Church Hairdressing shares her top hair tips to remember in the lead up to your wedding day.

7-8 months in go: See your stylist for a consultation
It’s really important to book a wedding trial with your stylist well in advance to make sure that you can chat about your themes and inspiration for your look. They can also get to know your hair and advise on the best style for your hair type and face shape. Wedding Angels offer a free consultation for the bride as part of your booking and other members of the party are welcome to book to talk through their styles too. Starting early means that your stylist can recommend personalised options for your hair in the lead up and you can book in important dates like cuts and colours pre-wedding. This is also your time to ask questions like ‘how long will it take on the day’ – you could even organise for a dress fitting on the same day so you can see the whole look together. Remember that wedding stylists often also run busy salons so try to give as much notice as possible for your wedding trial date to make sure you’re not disappointed.
6 months to go: Get prepping
With just half a year left until your ceremony, it’s time to prepare your hair and make sure you have the desired cut and colour that you want on the day. Get this right early and it’s simply a case of maintaining your gorgeous look, rather than worrying about whether you will like a new look with no time to tweak it. Your stylist will keep a record of your colour and service so there are no surprises right before the wedding.
1 week to go: The final cut and colour
It’s only one week until you get married – how exciting! It’s time to see your stylist for your final cut and colour. Ask any last minute questions too and stock up on any products that you might need for the night before or on your honeymoon (the big day might be over but that is no excuse for hotel shampoo!).
The night before: Pamper time
Phew, all of the hard work is done and it is time to relax and give your hair a deep clean. If possible, ask the stylist who is doing your hair on the day to do this for you in the salon. This will give you a real cleanse and get rid of any residual product that might be clinging to your hair. Sit back and treat yourself to an Olaplex stand-alone treatment to repair your hair and give it a gorgeous shine as you walk down the aisle.
On the day: Time to shine
On the morning itself, don’t worry about washing your hair again. Freshly washed hair is harder to manage and your style might not stay in place as long as you hope. Give your stylists a couple of hours to get you ready before you have to leave for the ceremony and try to be savvy about the order your bridal party is seen on. Short easy styles go last – you don’t want to be feeling rushed and you can enjoy your getting ready experience at your own pace. If your style requires a lot of heat, make sure you ask your hair stylist to work their magic before you get your make-up done, just to avoid any smudging.
You’re all set! With a little bit of planning and the right stylist by your side you’ll feel as incredible as you look as you walk into your future together.
