Stay Healthy for Your Winter Wedding
The winter season brings us a lot of different reasons to be cheerful; the Christmas holiday, family gatherings, and gift giving are all things we look forward to this time of year. It’s also a brilliant season for weddings! Plenty of brides-to-be love the idea of a cosy reception hall with a roaring fire, while snow lightly falls outside. However, cold weather weddings also mean a greater chance of falling ill. We put our bodies through a lot on a daily basis, and the cold temperatures that come with the season only amplify that. Combining that with the stress that comes from planning a wedding and the possibility of catching a cold (or worse) on your wedding day becomes a real possibility!
Here are a few ways you can stay healthy and make sure you’re feeling your best in time for your wonderful winter wedding.
- Strengthen Your Immune System
The more you can prep your body for this seasonal shift, the better off you’ll be. There are a variety of ways to help naturally boost your immune system, and some of them are incredibly simple. Thing like maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine is huge when it comes to staying healthy, but when you’re down to the wire with your wedding planning, it can be all too easy for people to choose quick and easy over healthy.
Even something as easy as eating more vitamin C rich foods can make a big difference. Oranges happen to be full of vitamin C while being relatively both, quick and easy! And as far as exercise is concerned, a little can go a long way. Take the stairs instead of the lift, take a walk during your lunchtime instead of eating at your desk. You’ll feel better and be in better shape to dance the night away at your reception!
- Stay Hydrated
This is not only important for your overall health, but for your appearance! Freezing cold winter winds wreak complete havoc on our skin, often leaving it dry and cracked. Definitely not a look you want for your wedding day! Drinking the recommended amount of water, in combination with regular use of the right moisturizer, will help keep your skin soft and smooth, so you can do all the slow dancing, hugging, and handshaking necessary on the big day without feeling self-conscious.
Keeping your body hydrated will also result in you feeling more energized, focused, and aware, which is a necessary advantage when you’re planning the biggest day of your life.

3. Take A Break
This may seem like a ridiculous suggestion, but sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself while planning your wedding is to stop planning your wedding. At least now and then so you’re able to refocus and relax, before coming back to it with a clear head. You chose to get married in the winter because you love the season, right? Well, don’t you want to be able to enjoy it? Take a breath. Go on a date with your partner. Build a snowman for all we care! Minimizing the stress surrounding the planning process will allow you to actually enjoy it; a novel idea indeed!
4. Brighten Up Your Surroundings
While winter weddings are beautiful, they can often lead to additional issues that couples marrying in the summer months don’t have to deal with. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a real issue that can occur throughout the cold winter months. As the days get darker, shorter, and colder, many people begin to feel more and more down, sad, and/or depressed.
One of the options available to combat SAD is brightening up the spaces that you spend significant amounts of time in, especially when outside it is often dark and grey. This can mean adding more lighting or brighter and serene colors to your surroundings.Christmas string lights are a great source of soft lighting that can be put around any space to create a sense of calm. Colours such as white and aqua are both bright and serene enough to lighten a space. Aggressive colours like black and red will drain energy instead of lifting it, so it’s is a good idea to avoid those if possible.
Taking time to care for yourself, both inside and outside, is crucial to keeping yourself healthy in the lead up to your winter wedding.
