REAL WEDDING SOPHIE & JONNY
Sophie and Jonny’s beautiful wedding at Doxford Barns, Northumberland was back in the summer of 2019 before the impact of this awful pandemic. Here is a little bit of Real Wedding loveliness for you to enjoy….
The Proposal
Sophie’s Dad played a key part in this relationship as Jonny was working with him when he introduced him to his daughter Sophie! As their relationship blossomed, Jonny proposed on a trip to New York and Sophie said Yes!
The Venue
Doxford Barns is an award-winning barn wedding venue nestled within a private 550-acre country estate, along the Northumberland coast near Alnwick. Bespoke, rustic and full of charming romantic character where rural charm effortlessly meets modern elegant style.
The Morning
Whilst the Bridal party were getting ready and one of Sophie’s friends was busy applying the brides make up, Sophie surprised Jonny with the gift of the use of a vintage E-Type Jag to take a drive around the country lanes of Northumberland!

Just before the ceremony, Sophie’s bridesmaids got their first look of her looking amazing in her dress and veil. Her bouquet and flowers were stunning.

The Ceremony
Neither Sophie nor her Dad looked nervous as they made their way to the stunning Threshing Hall. Dating back to the 18th century, the lovingly restored traditional stone and oak barn creates a striking setting for romantic barn ceremonies. Its solid oak frame, hand-carved stone walls, grand fireplace and exposed balcony look great on photographs.

Drinks & Photographs
After the ceremony, it was time for the family and friends to say ‘Congratulations’, tuck into canapés and have the traditional group photos.

Ahead of their big day, the couple met with local photographer, Laurence Sweeney for a pre-wedding photo shoot and chat alongside Newcastle’s famous Quayside. This was a great opportunity for them to get to know Laurence better and vice versa. This is a fantastic tip for any couple as it really helps you relax on the day resulting in the best photographs of you both!
The beautiful scenery at Doxford Barns includes corn fields, a vast lake, farmhouse lawn and the green spaces laid out in front of the wedding venue itself. Before the wedding breakfast, they had a few more photos along the lane and even got the chance to ride in a big tractor!

Speeches
After excellent speeches from the Father of the Bride and the Best Man. Unusually but so eloquently, Sophie spoke on behalf of herself and her new husband.

Sophie created all the stationery and admirably, they decided not to have favours, but to make a donation to Gateshead Food bank instead.

Before the arrival of the evening guests, they took a stroll in the fields accompanied by Laurence just as the sun was setting to capture the beautiful light and amazing surroundings.

Cake
The beautiful cake was made by Jonny’s Grandma.

First Dance
The evening featured an amazing set by a Mumford and Sons tribute band who played “We Will Fall” for the couples first dance. It didn’t take too long before family and friends joined them on the dance floor!

Entertainment
As well as the tribute band, there was also a fabulous DJ set that kept people dancing long into the night.

Special Touches
The flowers for the day were created by Christine from Lavender Blue Flowers who are based in Morpeth.
Favourite Moments
The fields around Doxford Barns are full of wild flowers and the warm light of the evening sun provided a beautiful and calm canvas. This truly reflected a wedding that was rustic, stylish, loving and joyful.
Top Tips
The best advice would be to get married around 1pm. This means that you are not too rushed in the morning, especially with hair and make up. You still have plenty of the day left to mix and have fun with close family and friends. Your photographer can capture the candid laughter and smiles, so that when you look back on your photos you will relive those moments. All the emotions will come flooding back!

Outfits
Sophie’s dress was stunning with lace detail and a simple veil. The bride had her hair up with tiny white flowers as accessories. Bridesmaids wore navy blue and lace which was complimented by the groomsmens grey suits with blue and white checks, blue ties and sliver tie clips.
