Organise Your Wedding Ceremony Music
When it comes to organising your wedding ceremony music there are many options available. This visual guide to string quartets by the Avoca String Quartet helps illustrate the steps that you should think about when considering hiring a string quartet.
Here’s a brief rundown of the steps that you need to know about:
Step #1 Cost
The average cost for a string quartet is £550 in Britain. This will vary depending on the location of the quartet and quality of the musicians.
Step #2 Style of Music
The majority of string quartets can play a selection of styles including classical, popular, jazz and traditional music.
Step #3 Pieces of Music
You should consider what the string quartet have listed in their repertoire on their website. It goes without saying a good string quartet will have an extensive list of music on their website. Do have a look on YouTube and SoundCloud to watch a listen to string quartets to get an idea of what you might like.
Step #4 How Many Pieces of Music?
This varies depending on the ceremony itself. For example a Catholic wedding ceremony will have 7 occasions during the ceremony when music will be needed. These include the processional, offertory, communion x2, signing of the registry x2 and the recessional.
Step #5 Prior Arrangements
The church or venue should be open 1 hour in advance. Ensure that there is space made available for the quartet. You should allow approximately 3m x 2m for the quartet. Also, a decision on where the quartet will sit will need to be considered.
Step #6 Additional Musicians
Some couples arrange for a singer to accompany their quartet. Your quartet should be able to recommend and/or organise for a singer. Also, organists are sometimes chosen to add some contrast to the ceremony.
