Eco-Friendly Weddings: How to Get the Aesthetic Right
Eco-friendly weddings are on the rise, as more and more couples are considering the impact saying ‘I do’ can have on the environment. There are a slew of guides online that seek to help couples achieve this, but a very important element is often overlooked – how best to communicate a natural, eco-friendly aesthetic. Today, we’re listing some tips that’ll make tying a natural aesthetic into your big day an absolute breeze – so you can enjoy the day you deserve, safe in the knowledge that your impact on the environment is as little as possible.
Food: look local
A locally sourced spread of food is a great idea for an eco-friendly wedding, reducing food miles and supporting local businesses. But to really make this informed, conscientious choice look great, consider writing handwritten labels explaining where each food item is from, so your guests know that you’ve chosen local produce for your eco-friendly wedding. This obviously works best with a buffet, but if you’re opting for table service, then make sure your menu has all your ethically sourced food highlighted.

Make an indoor venue flow with foliage
It seems obvious that a natural aesthetic would include lots of plants and flowers, but it really is a great style option to make even the most bland function room look great. Flower arches and bouquets are an obvious place to start, but the addition of petals down the aisle and maybe even flower crowns for bridesmaids and the bride – just make sure your flowers pertain to the time of year – think daffodils for spring, hydrangeas and roses for summer and daisies for any other time of year.
It’s not just flowers, having a few well-placed leafy plants can make the space look fantastic – and give an outdoorsy element to any wedding photographs brought inside due to inclement weather!
Say it with colour
From flowers in your hair to the finer accessories, you can add a touch of nature to just about any aspect of your wedding day. When it comes to the last-minute details, wearing some well-chosen pieces of jewellery is a crucial consideration for many brides, and this is a great chance to bring nature to the forefront. To combine colours from the great outdoors, you could consider opting for accessories in similar shades. From green amber jewellery – green is set to be big again this year – and floral crowns to chair covers and place settings, your overall decor and accessory options can help you truly emulate this natural aesthetic.

Rustic appeal: strip back your setting
Rustic, ‘preloved’ furniture is the way to go in order to really get the aesthetic right in terms of where and how your guests will be seated. Check sites such as Freecycle or Facebook Marketplace a few months before the ceremony, and be on the lookout for unique, budget-friendly furniture choices that would have otherwise been thrown away. When paired with natural foliage, some classic wooden chairs can look great alongside a few recycled wooden tables.
Beautiful candlelight
There’s nothing more romantic than some artfully placed candles, bathing a room in warm, flickering light – and so, we think that having a wedding lit by candles is a simply beautiful option. Perfect for a winter wedding where the sun sets quickly, a first dance as a married couple in a candlelit chamber, surrounded by your dearest family and friends is a fantastic idea – allowing you to truly embrace a natural and timeless aesthetic. Candles will also save on an energy bill, and if you use a natural candle such as beeswax, you’ll be helping the environment, too.
We hope these tips have given you some great inspiration for how to plan a natural, eco-friendly wedding, but the final decisions will be up to you. No two couples are the same, so experiment, plan and make sure your wedding will be a day of unforgettable memories!
