Holly & Richard’s Harrogate Wedding

The Old Swan Hotel is a popular wedding venue in Harrogate. It has some impressive period art deco architecture and caters well for a wedding day. It was the venue for Holly and Richard’s reception after their church wedding at St Robert’s Church in Harrogate.

I had previously met Holly and Richard at their pre-wedding photoshoot. A pre-wedding photoshoot gives the couple a taster of how I work and allows a couple to relax and get used to having their photograph taken. I offer advice on what looks natural so that on their wedding day they are much more relaxed having their photography taken and they need less direction from me so they can concentrate on enjoying their day. Holly and Richard chose to have their pre-wedding photoshoot at Knaresborough Castle. Knaresborough Castle and the surrounding area is stunning, ideal for a photoshoot being relatively quiet with plenty of variety for different shots. The area is well kept and picturesque and with the castle ruins stonework, the well manicured gardens, railway viaduct, river and the natural rock along the riverbank makes it a lovely place to photograph.

On the day of the wedding, Holly and her four bridesmaids had a relaxing morning preparing for the wedding at Holly’s parents house, before travelling to the church with the bride arriving with her father in his stunning TVR Griffith.

The interior of St Robert’s Church was stunning, light and very conducive to photography. With a balcony at the rear of the church I was able to get some height to take an impressive photograph of Holly and her father walking down the aisle as they entered the church, and of the moment when Richard saw Holly for the first time in her beautiful bridal dress.

Following the ceremony photographs of the couple were taken in the very picturesque valley gardens in Harrogate. This time is invaluable on their wedding day as it gives the couple time out to take it all in, and to catch up with each other on what each other had been doing in the morning. I think this is a great way to combine the couple having this time, and for me to capture some discrete, unobtrusive photographs of them together.

Needless to say everyone had a fantastic time and the photographs certainly capture that.
Many thanks to Damien Bramley of DJB Photography for this article and stunning photographs .
