Designing Your Fairy Tale Wedding
The live adaptation of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is predicted to make a real impact on wedding styles in 2017. Not only is it one of the most beloved stories of all time, but many of today’s brides grew up on the animated version. It is synonymous with romance to a whole generation.
Beauty in Fashion
Brides will have a variety of options for incorporating the movie’s style into the attire of their weddings. A pale yellow or light ivory ball gown style with a sweetheart neckline worn off the shoulders is a compromise for those not willing to say I Do in pure, bright yellow. Embroidered elements are popular this year. You could take the form of bold red roses on the front of a full skirt. Donning elbow-length gloves and carrying a single red rose instead of a bouquet would pay careful homage to the original movie.
Others might use colors closer to the original by dressing their attendants in yellow custom bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen in blue suits. Monochromatic hand-tied red rose bouquets and aisles decked out with thousands of soft red rose petals would set the scene with one of the most important symbolic elements in the movies.
If you have trouble wrapping your mind around yellow bridesmaid dresses, choose another color from the movie. Maybe the burgundy of Belle’s snow day gown or a turquoise like her casual dress when we first meet her.
For hair similar to Belle’s in the movie, have yours styled half up and half down, straightened, with large bouncy curls. Note that heavy curls and down-dos tend not to last in humid weather or in certain hair types. If this is true for your hair, an up-do with curls will give a similar impression yet last longer.
The Setting
If you’re lucky enough to have a French-inspired castle nearby, you’ve already got the perfect venue waiting for you. The rest of us have to be more creative, of course. Something with stone architecture like a classic European winery would work well, or choose a blank-slate venue and bring in elements that give the room a similar ambiance. Rich linens, professional lighting and specialty upholstered rental furniture will go a long way towards creating a movie-inspired scene.
Decor
Search for pieces like antique clocks, classic used books, chandeliers and brass candle holders. Use these as centerpieces and as accents around the room. Hanging installations of vines and roses are not only movie-inspired, but particularly trendy this year. Bell jars with floral arrangements inside or as serving pieces are the perfect fit for the theme. They even come in miniature versions to give away as guest favors (perhaps with a macaron to keep the French-theme alive).
The Menu
French cuisine is world-renowned, so it should be easy to get your caterer to invent some fun twists on traditional dishes. Action stations manned by chefs who interact with guests as they cook in small portions offer the freshest cuisine. This is a fun approach to meal service. Fondue (savory or sweet) and custom crepes stations are just two possibilities.
What else could you pull from the movie to extend the theme? Maybe a grand choreographed first dance? A favorite French motif on your printed goods? If you have been a long-time fan of Disney’s interpretation of the class fairy tale, this year’s live adaptation gives you the perfect opportunity to incorporate your favorite design features your own way.
