SILVERKUPE JEWELLERY STUDIO
Silverkupe is an independent contemporary jewellery studio founded by designer-maker and tutor Emine Mine Thompson in 2017. Based in Ouseburn, Newcastle upon Tyne, Silverkupe creates distinctive, sculptural jewellery characterised by organic forms, tactile textures and understated simplicity.
Emine’s background in design, 3D modelling and landscape architecture informs her approach to jewellery, with a particular fascination for form, surface and the relationship between structure and texture. Each piece is designed and made by hand in the Silverkupe studio using traditional and contemporary techniques, including silversmithing, wax carving, reticulation, corrugation, oxidation, enamelling and keum-boo.
Sustainability is central to the practice. Silverkupe works predominantly with recycled silver and gold, creating jewellery intended to be treasured and worn for years rather than following short-lived trends. Collections including Fold and Seed explore sculptural forms inspired by natural processes, movement and texture, alongside one-of-a-kind pieces and bespoke commissions.
Alongside her own jewellery practice, Emine has been teaching jewellery-making for more than a decade. Silverkupe offers small-group silversmithing, silver clay and specialist jewellery workshops, as well as private sessions and wedding-ring workshops. Classes are taught in a relaxed, supportive studio environment with professional tools and individual guidance, welcoming both complete beginners and those wishing to develop their existing skills.
At its heart, Silverkupe brings together contemporary design, craftsmanship, sustainability and the pleasure of making by hand.
