This event started three years ago as a ‘one off’ event as a thank you to give back to the charity that once helped me when I was diagnosed with testicular cancer, aged 26. The success of the Hopes and Dreams brand for fundraising for Macmillan cancer has ended up allowing me to be a kind of mimi celebrity to the area, winning charity fundraiser of the year with Minster FM, now a committee member on the York Macmillan Committee and now our event for 2018 is in the finals for the listeners choice awards with Minster FM for ‘Best Event’ which is fantastic that we have to support of everyone and very grateful to everyone for their support.
My treatment was simple in ways that I mean wasn’t requiring chemo but went through surgery and recovery and all the chats and cups of tea and the biggest part that touched me from Macmillan was when I first saw them when I was firstly diagnosed when I was sat in a room and knew nothing about them, she was there to help me understand the next stages, the worst outcomes and most importantly how to tell my loved ones and my boss. I went on holiday for mums surprise 60th and came back straight into surgery, what got me more than anything is my Macmillan nurse found when my surgery was and was by my bedside when I woke up. So this was also my reasonings to wanting to give back. I then was referred to Leeds University hospital where I went through a five year program of tests and bloods and can now officially say I have been discharged in May 2018 as cancer free.
So my first event was a nice number of 160 with all the usual event offerings and raised £4000 for Macmillan , it was such a buzz…. the feedback was great and there was a huge demand to redo the event next year from my couple of sponsors and the clients. So I did it again the year after but it grew to 310 guests and raised £8000 with 6 sponsors and a reputation for the event with Minster FM, so I decided yet again to do another one which was on June 9th 2018 and we decided to theme the event so we did something different and we went all ‘carnival’ style and I couldn’t believe it but I could stop tickets selling and we sold out with 480 guests! I couldn’t believe my eyes and what was very hard work and took everything to a new level of organisation, demand and delivering we pulled off the best event yet raising £16300 for Macmillan and had 12 amazing sponsors.
This years event we have decided to theme it again with an Indian summer, offering splashes of colour, fun dancing groups, a range of live acts which will hopefully deliver a fun and energetic performance throughout and we are so pleased our sponsors have continued their support once again, with the exception of a couple which has opened new opportunities for new faces and promotion for these companies. The event will take place in June 2019 at the award winning York racecourse and is guaranteed to be a great night out for a great cause, and is supported and hosted by 104.7 Minster FM. Tickets have already half sold and we have announced our Headline Act Nathan Grisdale and are having loads of attention for the event. We are offering an early bird ticket for those who book before the end of December at £45.00 per head before all tickets increase to £50.00 per person, however we are offing a deposit scheme of £20.00 per person with the remaining balance paid by April 2019. It’s great to see the event looking popular once again.
